The Job Process

General Instructions
  • Remove loose mortar from previously plastered surfaces. Unplastered walls are ready for subsequent treatment.
  • Prepare the wall with Knauf primer ("Knauf Betokontact" for smooth surfaces or "Knauf Primer - Grundiermitel" for high absorbing surfaces).
  • For a smooth finish and protection of exposed corners apply "Knauf Corner Beads".
  • For vertical external corners (doors & windows) use our Knauf Corner Beads in order to avoid possible damages.
  • For overspaning cracks & stresses between different kinds of substrates the use of our Gitex reinforcement mesh for plasters is more than required.

Hand Applied KNAUF Plasters
  • Pour 26 lt. Of clean water into a bucket. Add knauf plaster (40 kg) with a trowel. When the Knauf plaster has absorbed some water mix it to a smooth paste.
  • Use the Knauf mixer, which fits any electric drill. Do not prepare more plaster than you can use within 20 minutes.
  • Spread Knauf plaster on the wall with a trowel and let it dry for 60 min.
  • When at certain spots the coating is not thick enough spread knauf plaster again and scrap it with the trapezoid featheredge.
  • 10 min. later sprinkle the surface with water and smooth with a hard sponge float to remove trowel and featheredge marks. Work in circular motion.
  • If you want a really smooth surface you should finish it with a Swiss trowel 10 min. After smoothing.


Machine Applied KNAUF Plasters
  • The PFT machines in accordance with our KNAUF MP LEICHT gypsum plaster help you to plan and work fastly, easily & economically.
  • Plaster should be sprayed on the wall working horizontally from top to bottom.
  • Leveling the wall surface can be achieved with the use of the H-section featheredge, then let dry for 90 min.
  • When at certain spots the coating is not thick enough spread knauf plaster again and scrap it with the trapezoid featheredge.
  • 10 min. later sprinkle the surface with water and smooth with a hard sponge float to remove trowel and featheredge marks. Work in circular motion.
  • If you want a really smooth surface you should finish it with a Swiss trowel 10 min. After smoothing.
